Composed of trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms residing primarily in your intestines, the microbiome influences metabolic functions, immune regulation, and even mental health. Impact on Weight

  1. Metabolism: The gut microbiome can influence the body's metabolism by affecting how food is digested and how nutrients and energy are extracted from food. Certain types of gut bacteria help break down complex carbohydrates and fiber, which the body itself cannot digest. This process produces short-chain fatty acids that can influence energy metabolism and storage.

  2. Fat Storage: Research suggests that the microbiome can affect the body’s fat storage. For example, some bacteria can increase levels of fasting-induced adipocyte factor (FIAF), which inhibits the storage of fat and promotes fat burning.
