Here are some of the initiatives that have been taken to ensure environmental sustainability in Nigeria's export sector ¹ ²:

- *Green Growth Economy*: This concept was first introduced in 2005 in Seoul. The goal is to move away from the present economic growth to a sustainable green growth path with the overall aim of reducing poverty and environmental sustainability.

- *Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP)*: The Nigerian government is coordinating a clean-up exercise of the Ogoni land through this project. This clean-up project is expected to take between 25 to 30 years to restore the environment.

- *National Plastic Action Partnership*: Nigeria is collaborating with the World Economic Forum to establish this partnership. This partnership is dedicated to eradicating waste pollution.

- *Nigeria Circular Economy Program*: This program aims to establish a circular economy along the waste value chain with green start-ups.

- *Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Programs*: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting several states in Nigeria for their water, sanitation, and hygiene programs.

- *Effective Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Services (E-WASH)*: This is a four-year USAID flagship program. This program involves technical assistance to strengthen the governance and institutions in the urban and local water, sanitation, and hygiene services (WASH) subsector in five Nigerian states of Abia, Delta, Imo, Niger, and Taraba.

Here are some of the environmental sustainability initiatives in Nigeria's export sector 

1. The Nigeria Erosion and Water Shed Management Project (NEWMAP) was launched in 2012 and completed in 2022. The project focused on the restoration of 90 gully sites and the construction of close to 60 catchments to control erosion.

2. The Debt for Climate initiative was launched in the previous year.

3. The Energy Transition Plan was launched last year.

4. Green bonds were issued to help the Government of Nigeria finance ‘green investments’ in agriculture, energy, water, and transport. The bonds raised $30 million in 2017 and $41 million in 2019.
