What are closing costs, and how much should I expect to pay?

Closing costs are fees associated with the home buying process, and they are usually between 2% to 5% of the home’s purchase price. These fees include origination and underwriting fees, real estate commissions, taxes, insurance premiums, as well as title and record filings. The costs vary depending on your state, loan type and mortgage lender.
