What is the mortgage underwriting process?

The mortgage underwriting process is when a lender evaluates a borrower's financial situation and determines whether or not to approve a home loan. The lender will evaluate the borrower's credit history, income, debt-to-income ratio and the value of the property. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
