GPS positioning in drones works by ¹ ² ³:
- *Triangulation*: A drone receives signals from satellites, which allows the drone to calculate its distance from the satellites and pinpoint its exact location.
- *Satellite signals*: A drone uses the signals it receives from satellites to determine its speed and position.
- *GPS module*: The GPS module in a drone can pick up signals from satellites and determine the drone's position, speed and time.
- *Multiple satellite systems*: Some GPS modules can receive signals from multiple satellite systems, like GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.

The limitations of GPS positioning in drones include ²:
- *Battery drain*: GPS technology can drain the drone's battery faster.
- *Higher cost*: Drones with GPS technology are more expensive than those without.
- *Complications*: Sometimes, there can be a delay in the satellite signals or the GPS module can get confused if it switches between signals mid-flight, which can cause problems.
- *GPS-denied scenarios*: GPS signals can be obstructed in certain situations, like indoor or underground flights, or near large metal objects.
