The main components of an aircraft's landing gear include ¹ ² ³:

- *Main Wheels*: These are the larger, stronger wheels located near the aircraft's center of gravity (c.g.) that absorb the brunt of the landing load.
- *Auxiliary Wheels*: These are smaller wheels that support the aircraft while on the ground and help maintain balance.
- *Shock Struts*: These are hydraulic shock absorbers that dissipate the impact energy of landing by converting it into heat.
- *Torque Links*: These are scissor-shaped arms that prevent the piston from rotating inside the cylinder and keep the wheel aligned for safe landing.
- *Shimmy Damper*: This is a small hydraulic piston and cylinder that dampens any vibration in the nosewheel during take-off or landing.
- *Retraction Mechanism*: This is a system that allows the landing gear to be stowed away after departure to reduce drag and improve cruise performance.
